I can’t believe we’re at Doors of Thrones No 6 already!
Located close to the beautiful Ballintoy Harbour which may be better known by many as the Iron Islands , and only a few miles from the Dark Hedges, Door No6 is positioned in arguably the most beautiful area of Game of Thrones filming locations. It is also one of the many locations in my Game of Thrones Tour of Ireland blog (available here).
Episode 6, Door Of Thrones 6
Fullerton Arms Bar & Restaurant plays host to this door in all its Targaryen beauty. Depicting the family crest, her largest dragon Drogon and the Dothraki horses who (alongside the Dothraki of course) are now ready to follow her into battle. Following the usual ‘I looked like I was in trouble but actually I have dragons / can’t be burnt, hear me roar’ story line, Daenerys is well on her way to having the largest army in the land what with needing 1000 boats to carry them all to Meereen.
We ventured inside The Fullerton Arms ready to get some food but were told they were no longer serving food in either the bar or restaurant (at 7.30pm on a Tuesday). They had a Game of Thrones-esque room on the way in, so we amused ourselves for a few minutes before moving on to find food elsewhere.
To be honest I was quite grumpy as the website frames the restaurant as a must visit but being closed by 7.30 the day after the reveal of a door like this seemed a little odd. I’m also curious as to why the door was positioned here and not the slightly more apt Ballintoy Harbour Cafe located right in the harbour where filming took place. Every cloud has a silver lining however and we ventured on to one of my favourite restaurants, The Ramore in Portrush. You may occasionally have to wait for a seat but this restaurant never disappoints and is exceptionally good value for money with high quality and tasty food.
For under £25 in total we each got a burger and fries and a drink (Guinness as always for the other half). If you’re up this neck of the woods I would always recommend visiting here for a feed.
So there we have it folks, Door of Thrones No 6, Ballintoy. I’d really recommend a visit to this area, it’s where you’ll find a host of famous areas and it’s truly beautiful. I’m looking forward to seeing where Door No7 will land and where in Belfast the final door will find its home.
